چکیده

Bleaching effect of cotton fabrics using hydrogen peroxide produced by glucose oxidase enzyme from Aspergillus niger has been studied. It is observed that enzymes are highly active at acidic pH under room temperature in terms of peroxide release during the reaction. Incomplete conversion of glucose by the enzyme results in discolouration of the reaction bath and the fabrics under alkaline pH conditions. External supply of oxygen and mechanical agitation during initial stage of reaction influence the conversion of glucose into hydrogen peroxide and whiteness index of bleached samples.

This study attempted to introduce the bio-processes in the conventional scouring and bleaching preparation of cotton. The scouring with two types of pectinases, acting under acidic and alkaline conditions respectively, was as efficient as the chemical process in terms of obtained adequate water absorbency of the fabrics. The necessity of surfactants application in scouring was outlined. Bleachi...

In-situ Enzymatic Generation of Hydrogen Peroxide for Bleaching Purposes

Bleaching detergent formulations contain environmentally unfriendly bleaching agents (perborates and percarbonates), which cause aquatic eutrophication, although without these compounds detergents are much less efficient for the washing processes. In an effort to replace these compounds, in this study, hydrogen peroxide was generated as a bleaching compound by means of enzymatic reactions. Thre...

Low-Temperature Bleaching of Cotton Cellulose using an Ultrasound-assisted Tetraacetylethylenediamine/ Hydrogen Peroxide/Triethanolamine System

This work investigated the efficiency of a tetraacetylethylenediamine/ hydrogen peroxide/triethanolamine (TAED/H2O2/TEA) system for lowtemperature bleaching of cotton fabric, with and without ultrasonic assistance. The low-temperature bleaching results were compared to those obtained from a conventional H2O2 bleaching system. The application of TAED/H2O2/TEA without ultrasonic assistance to gre...

The application of catalase for the elimination of hydrogen peroxide residues after bleaching of cotton fabrics.

Results of dyeing of cotton fabrics with a bifunctional reactive dye were significantly improved when the fabric after bleaching with hydrogen peroxide was treated with catalase for the elimination of hydrogen peroxide residues from the fabrics. Compared to processes with a varying number of washing steps, with and without commercial reducing agents, the consumption of water could be significan...

Ultrasonic pilot-scale reactor for enzymatic bleaching of cotton fabrics.

The potential of ultrasound-assisted technology has been demonstrated by several laboratory scale studies. However, their successful industrial scaling-up is still a challenge due to the limited pilot and commercial sonochemical reactors. In this work, a pilot reactor for laccase-hydrogen peroxide cotton bleaching assisted by ultrasound was scaled-up. For this purpose, an existing dyeing machin...
